Map Viewer Button Tools The SEF GeoBook Map Viewer chapter has a toolbar located directly above each map. The toolbar contains buttons that allow you to interact directly with the map. Holding the mouse pointer over one of the tool bar icons will display a description of the button's functionality.
Buttons exposing map navigation tools used for zooming in and zooming out of a selected area of the map or for moving the map display area (panning) are included. To use any of the tools, click the tool button once to activate the function. This will highlight the button and the pointer will then provide the functionality of the tool. By clicking on the map once and holding the left mouse button down, you can perform the tool function described by moving the mouse pointer. Release the mouse once you have identified the area of interest. In addition, tools for zooming to last map extent and zooming to the full map extent are included. These buttons operate as commands; that is, simply clicking the button will execute the function on the map canvas and refresh the map extent appropriately. The identify tool, provides additional information on a specific data layer for a specific location. Clicking the TerraServer map tool will fetch orthoimagery and digital raster graphics from the Microsoft TerraServer site and add these images as layers in your map. The Window To My Environment tool will launch a new browser window and pass the coordinates of your map extent to the US EPA Window To My Environment web site so that you can view available data and information for your map extent. The Print Map button will create a PDF format map based upon the currently viewed map extent. An Edit/Export Shapefile tool allows you to create and download a polygon shapefile for use outside the system. Finally, the Bookmarks tool provides the capabiltiy to save, recall, and delete spatial bookmarks within the system.
Zoom In Button - The zoom in tool allows you to draw a square or rectangle on the map to define an area of interest.
Zoom Out Button - The zoom out tool allows you to click anywhere on the map to zoom out by a factor of two (doubles the scale) or you can draw an area of interest.
Zoom Last Button - The zoom last tool will zoom to the previously viewed map extent when the button is clicked.
Zoom All Button - This tool will allow you to see the full extent or boundaries of your map area.
Pan Button - The pan tool lets you click and drag on the map to move the map display area. This is useful for centering an area of interest.
Information or Identify Map Features Button - To use this tool, click on it once to highlight. Click on the 'W' symbol immediately to the left of a data layer in the layer list, about which you would like to find out more information. This will make the data layer the active layer and allow interaction between the user and the underlying database of information about the specific data set that supports the theme. Click on the map at the location for which you would like additional information. A red push pin will be rendered at your location of interest. Hovering the mouse cursor over this push pin will diplay information for the closest feature to the area selected in an "Identify Results" window.
EPA Button – This tool provides a direct connection to EPA's EnviroMapper website. The coordinates from your map view will be transferred to EnviroMapper so that you can view available data for the same area of interest. With EnviroMapper, you have access to a wealth of environmental information on your desktop. EnviroMapper is a powerful tool used to map various types of environmental information, including air releases, drinking water, toxic releases, hazardous wastes, water discharge permits, and Superfund sites. Select a geographic area within EnviroMapper and view the different facilities that are present within that area. Create maps at the national, state, and county levels, and link them to environmental text reports.
Photo Button – This tool provides a direct connection to Microsoft's TerraServer website. The coordinates from your map view will be transferred to TerraServer and orthophotography and digital raster graphics will be added to your map . The images are not recent for the most part, but the 1 to 10 meter resolution does provide a unique perspective on what the general landscape looks like. TerraServer provides free public access to maps and aerial photographs of the United States.
Print Button – This tool allows you to print the full map view to your default printer.

Once you have saved the information you can email the files as an attachment to be included in any updates of the protedcted or managed.
